English graduate courses are labeled as 5000 or 8000 level. Advanced undergraduate courses (4000 level) may be taken for graduate credit with the permission of the Director of Graduate Studies if the course content is not offered at the graduate level. English literature courses are labeled EngL and creative writing courses EngW.
We encourage our students to take classes across the University; students often take courses in areas such as African American and African Studies, American Studies, Asian American Studies, Chicano Studies, Classical and Near Eastern Studies, Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature, Early Modern Studies, Gender, Women and Sexuality Studies, History, Medieval Studies, Religious Studies, and Writing Studies, and the languages. For current offerings from other departments, go to the University's class search page or the course guide.
